This January, a healthy lifestyle has gone beyond giving up drinking (apart from Friday nights) and actually going to the gym at least 3 times...
2019 has been labelled ‘The Year of the Vegan’, and even if you haven’t signed up to the Veganuary challenge for January, you may have noticed that vegan cuisine is everywhere, from supermarket shelves to your Instagram feed.
The over-indulgence of Christmas is a distant memory and it’s now late January... We’re all feeling the pinch from the festive season and that first pay day of 2019 still somehow seems a lifetime away. Here’s how you can get the most out of what’s on in the capital while on a budget!
1. Winter Lights Festival at Canary Wharf
Take a stroll around London’s financial hub as the Winter Lights return for a fifth year from 15th – 26th January. The festival brings together the world’s most exciting artists working with light today, using state-of-the-art technology to deliver a spectacular experience. Also available are the Winter Light Bites, a variety of vintage food trucks to keep you warm with delicious dishes and hot drinks.
2. Pick up a bargain in the January Sales
Whether you got a voucher or money for Christmas from a distant relative or you’re simply looking to treat yourself, there’s nowhere better than London for shopping. From the department stores of Oxford Street to one of the 200 stores at Westfield Stratford, there will be offers that cater for all budgets. For something a bit different why not visit one of the many markets across the city, including Camden and Borough Markets.
3. Visit a museum
Meet a T-Rex, travel back in time to Victorian Britain or get up close to the Apollo 10 spacecraft. There’s so much to immerse yourself in at one of the city’s many museums and art galleries and best of all they’re all free to enter. We recommend the Science Museum in Kensington as a fun day out for all the family.
4. Explore an open space
We’re lucky in London to have so many open green spaces to walk and jog through for free. Obviously, we would look no further than our neighbour, Hyde Park, where you can burn off any excess festive calories or spend a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city and explore the natural beauty in the area.
Free Harry Potter walking tour
Join Strawberry Tours as some of London’s iconic buildings are given new meaning, showcased as they were in the context of the Harry Potter films. Transport yourself to the Wizarding World and discover such attractions as the Ministry of Magic and Diagon Alley. Tours run twice a day from Leicester Square and you can reserve your place online.
